Defenses in cases involving narcotics often involve motions to suppress evidence based on how that evidence was obtained:
- Illegal search and seizure. Police cannot stop you and search your person or your vehicle without a legal reason. If the evidence was obtained as a result of an illegal search and seizure, a lawyer can file a motion to suppress the drug evidence.
